By M. Stubsjøen (auth.), O. A. Rognli, E. Solberg, I. Schjelderup (eds.)

This booklet comprises papers and posters provided on the 18th Eucarpia Fodder plants part assembly held at Loen, Nordfjord, Norway in August 1993.
In such a lot environments a few type of marginal stipulations or rigidity prevails. Few vegetation are being produced lower than this type of wide variety of environmental and administration stresses as fodder plants. stronger model of fodder vegetation to marginal stipulations is essential in constructing sustainable, low-input agricultural structures. The e-book is exclusive in demonstrating the massive variety either in vegetation and environmental stresses that confront the forage breeders. either normal and particular features of variation to marginal transforming into stipulations are awarded, starting from difficulties because of snow and ice within the Subarctic areas of Europe to the serious drought difficulties within the Mediterranean areas.
for everybody all in favour of experiences of variation and breeding of perennial crops for marginal stipulations or pressure environments.

Found considerable variation in frost tolerance, and good response to phenotypic selection in clonal experiments. In terms of registered cultivars, however, very little progress has been achieved. The scope for improving yield and winter-hardiness by selection within our indigeneous ryegrass material seems to be rather limited. 50 Systematic breeding efforts to broaden the genetic basis for developing Norwegian cultivars has been carried out only for the last 10 years. Some of the results of two breeding projects, in which different Norwegian breeding populations of ryegrass were compared to foreign ryegrass cultivars and populations under different climatic conditions in South-Norway, will be presented.

The collected ecotypes were planted in a spaced planted nursery for evaluation. l. which is characterized by an exceptionally long snow cover. The following characters were assessed: Spring vigour, vigour at cutting time, regrowth, rust resistance, winter hardiness, persistency. The proportion ofoutstanding accessions according to their general appearance was in perennial rygrass 4%, Kentucky bluegrass and orchardgrass 15%, respectively, and in meadow fescue 10%. g. Kentucky bluegrass in counties Miesbach, Rosenheim, Traunstein; orchardgrass in counties Freising and Allgliu; meadow fescue in counties Rosenheim and Freising.

This can lead to blurring of the boundaries between the populations, the outcome being the result of interaction between the strength of the selection pressures operating and the extent of gene flow between the populations. Such a situation was described by Ennos (1985), where Cynosurus cristatus populations 100 m apart showed only weak genetic divergence because ofthe impact of gene (pollen) flow between them. Yet the populations of zinc tolerant A. capillaris from beneath electricity pylons described earlier exist on areas less than 100 m2 surrounded by vast populations of non zinc tolerant individuals from which gene flow must be very considerable.
